Design for Charity Fashion Show

Ruby Room Fashion Show Call for Designers
Fashion Show Name: Fashion Faux Pas to Fashion Fabulous
Show type: Women’s Evening Wear
When: September 7 or 8 (exact date TBD), from 7 - 10 p.m.
Where: Lobby of the Paramount Theater

This is a charity fashion show benefiting the Ruby Room in Seattle. www.rubyroomseattle.org

About the Ruby Room: The Ruby Room is a nonprofit organization that provides formal gowns free of charge to Seattle area high school girls who are unable to purchase a prom gown or accessories on their own. Dresses and accessories are collected throughout the year and made available at boutiques in the spring. Each girl is paired with a volunteer personal shopper who assists her in picking out the perfect gown.

This is the third year the Ruby Room will present this fashion show, which is their biggest fundraiser of the year.

We are looking for several fashion designers to show women’s evening wear for this fashion show. Each designer will be given a bag of gowns that the Ruby Room was unable to offer to their clients because they were not in perfect condition. This means they may be stained, faded, torn, or out of fashion (80s - Pretty in Pink anyone?). The challenge to you will be to take these gowns and create at least one gown from them, but the more gowns you are able to create the better. It’s the ultimate in gown reconstruction.

At the end of the fashion show, the gowns you created from the old dresses will be auctioned off and the money raised will directly benefit the Ruby Room and their many clients. You can show other evening gowns from your collection and you don’t have to auction them off. But you must agree to create and auction off at least one gown.

Deadline for designers to sign up is Friday, July 6

If you are interesting in participating contact Jaime Carufel at (206) 491-3487.

Fabric Sale

Hi Everyone-

Terry will be opening up the school on Sunday the 20th from 10-2 for a fabric sale. We will be taking advantage of the traffic flow from the Ballard Sunday Market. If you have any old unused fabric or garments, notions etc that you have created bring them to the school to put on sale. Even ballgowns or fashion show garments. Or if you are already tempted by some of the fabric coming in to the school and interested in buying something this is a great opportunity. Hope to see you all there!

Cool Yard Sale

Howdy Folks!

I just wanted to pass on some info on a cool yard sale set to happen in Laurelhurst (near Magnuson Park) this weekend. My artist friend Peggy and 2 of her artist neighbors are having a yard sale Friday & Saturday (May 11th & 12th).

Why is this of interest to you? Because they are selling off tons of cool fabrics and other fun artisty type things! Find books, tchotchkes, craft items, Japanese handicrafts, building materials, tool, etc. plus the requisite collection of household junk. These guys are selling items from their lifelong stashes. Don't miss it!

Follow signs from Sand Point Way at Union 76 gas station

Fashion Illustration

This is not in any way meant to be a substitution for fashion illustration. You need to know how and Terry is a master at teaching us the techniques. However, For those of us who may be a little more challenged when it comes to illustration there are aids available.

Check out this website :
www.fashion-templates.com

This site uses fashion templates and shows you step by step methods to draw your own fashion figures.
On the site you will also find a FREE technical drawing template and loads of other free fashion illustration resources.
You can buy the templates and download them to your computer for personal use. You can also send your portfolios and fashion illustrations to be showcased on the site.

Most of you at the school already know about --9 Heads: A Guide to Drawing Fashion, by Nancy Riegelman. If you haven’t yet check it out please do so. There is a copy up in the computer room. This is a must have for illustration by hand or CAD generated.
